Lunch & Learn: Mayra Garcia and Assembly Studios

Mayra Garcia is the Director of Community Engagement and Internships at Assembly Atlanta, a role she has held since January 2024. Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, Mayra moved to Atlanta in January 2000 and attended schools in Brookhaven. Over the past 25 years, she has remained deeply connected to her community, championing inclusion, opportunity, and storytelling.

Prior to her current role, Mayra served as Operations Manager at Third Rail Studios, where she launched and led a groundbreaking film internship program—the only one of its kind at a major Georgia studio—designed to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experience and open pathways into the local film workforce. She continues to collaborate with the DeKalb Entertainment Commission to expand film education and access across the region.

 Mayra is a member of Women in Film & Television Atlanta (WIFTA) and a founding board member of We Love BuHi, where she partnered with Living Walls on the BuHi Walk Project. She actively supports and volunteers with re:imagine/ATL and The Cross Keys Foundation, and has been a featured speaker at Oglethorpe University and Cross Keys High School, often highlighting her journey as an immigrant woman building a career in the film industry.

Before entering film and television, Mayra worked in photography, public relations, and event planning for PR Productions and private clients. She also served as an immigration paralegal for four years with Taylor, Lee & Associates and Gonzalez Law Firm. Her career reflects a deep belief in the power of storytelling to empower, connect, and create change.
