DeKalb Traveler: Glen Emerald Rock Garden Tour

 In
August 18, 10 AM

Join fellow DeKalb History Center Members Exploring Glen Emerald Rock Garden with Mrs. Tasha L. J. Messer, DeKalb County Parks Naturalist.

These parks have been described as DeKalb County’s hidden gems. It’s not hard to see why. Glen Emerald Park, and Glen Emerald Rock Garden, hidden off of Bouldercrest Road, contain 27 acres of woodland, lake, parkland, and an unusual rock garden. Visitors to this rock garden have called it Ferngully, with its moss-covered boulders, stone bridges, and millstone table tops.

The rock garden was built in 1935, and designed by landscape architect William Monroe, Sr., of Monroe Gardens and Landscape.

You can read the full history here: Glen Emerald Park and Rock Garden History – DHC Blog

Please be aware, the rock garden is made of rocks. You will need to navigate some uneven surfaces and non paved surfaces to fully explore the garden. The garden has several elevation changes, so larger steps up and down are required. Poles are recommended if you prefer with uneven surfaces.

This garden is well shaded.
