2025 Black History Month Celebration – DeKalb History Center
Love Letters to the Caribbean
Join us as Monica Foderingham highlights the diversity of the Caribbean diaspora in the metro area by showcasing unique aspects of Caribbean culture such as food, film, and music. Sharing her immigration journey to the U.S., Charmaine Hooke-Powell will remember the pivotal moment when she embraced her identity as a black individual and the challenges of assimilation.
Monica El-Amin, DHCs African American History Coordinator, kicks off the event with opening remarks that share her personal story and establish the connection between DeKalb County and the Caribbean community.
Our program will include celebratory musical selections from singer Nzinga Benton.
The event culminates with a spectacular meal from Phenomenal Food by Chef Holly.
Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm
At the Historic DeKalb Courthouse
