2024 Black History Month Celebration – DeKalb History Center
A Tribute to Black History in DeKalb Featuring Historian, Author, and Activist Dr. Herman “Skip” Mason, Jr.
Join us for our 16th Annual Black History Month Celebration! Dr. Herman “Skip” Mason, Jr., will provide an exciting retrospective look at DeKalb’s history through the lens of his book African American Life in DeKalb County, 1823 – 1970, published in 1998. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to gain insights, understanding, and an authentic connection to DeKalb County’s rich African American heritage.
Marcia Glenn Hunter, Lithonia’s first Black female mayor, will provide opening remarks.
Our program will include celebratory musical selections from singer Nzinga Benton. Dancer Morgan Harrell, Miss Middle West Georgia, will close the program with a dynamic interpretive dance.
Lunch is included with ticket purchase and will be provided by Phenomenal Foods by Chef Holly.
