Volunteer with DeKalb History Center!

First-time volunteers must apply with DeKalb History Center. If you’re interested in the current opportunities below and have read the 5 items here, please continue with the link to fill out the application. We look forward to meeting you!

  1. Once your application is received, the volunteer coordinator will contact you, via email.
  2. Check your spam folder.
  3. Applicants are subject to a background check. A brief in-person orientation is also required.
  4. We ask you to commit to at least 4 volunteer sessions per year, but you are welcome to attend more.
  5. There is no dedicated parking lot for DHC, but there are parking decks and street parking nearby. These are pay-to-park lots. The Decatur MARTA station is also nearby.

Current opportunities: 

Greeter- museum exhibits are open Monday-Saturday. The greeter sits in the lobby to greet visitors to the museum, 10:30 – 1:30; also Monday-Friday, 1:00-4:00. This position requires sitting and being willing to meet and greet people.

Clerical- we publish a newsletter/journal 4 times a year, as well as other special mailings throughout the year. Volunteers help us with the folding and placing address labels and stamps on the newsletters for mailing. This position requires sitting and repetitive hand/wrist movements. These are daytime events.

Special Events, various- This position usually calls for the volunteer to meet and greet people, handle money, and other similar tasks. It may involve sitting, standing, or walking. These include both daytime and nighttime events.
