Athos Menaboni-Georgia Artist
Join Russell Clayton for his presentation on Athos Menaboni (1895-1990), one of Georgia’s most prominent artists, and who is widely recognized for naturalistic paintings of birds. His greatest patron was Robert Woodruff, Coca-Cola magnate and Atlanta philanthropist.
Menaboni is also responsible for large decorative works found throughout the state, including among others at The Temple, the Capital City Club, Swan House, and the R. J. Reynolds Mansion. One of his most unique murals was created for The Citizens and Southern National Bank branch on Decatur’s Clairmont Road. This rare eggshell mosaic is now owned by the DeKalb History Center and is on exhibition at the Brick Store Pub.
Clayton will discuss the artist’s successful life and career, and provide additional information about the DHC art.
