Atlanta’s Olympic Resurgence, How the 1996 Games Revived a Struggling City, tells the story of how Atlanta transformed from a city struggling with urban decay, white flight, and the legacy of the Jim Crow South to a city of international prominence.
Told from the minds of the three urban planning professionals who were there to witness it all, Michael Dobbins, Leon S. Eplan, and Randal Roark, the story tells of the partnership between a strong mayor, local business leaders, and Black political leadership who were daring enough to bid on hosting the 1996 Olympics and the journey that helped to make Atlanta the city it is today.
